Color Scheme of Golden Ochre and Teal: Two Artworks

I'm often drawn to yellow ocher and blue-green color harmonies in my work. The two pieces shown here are variations on that scheme.

This wall-hanging (left), Iron Man, is based on a vintage, very large anatomy chart. I added rusty bits, imagery, acrylic media, string, and much more. The texture is extremely palpable. Do you find it to be creepy and disturbing, or interesting and thought-provoking?

The collage/painting directly above, Abide in Me, is to honor my step-father, Cal Schultz, who was a very talented artist and a great dad. (He's the little guy being held up by his brother.) Cal had been stricken with polio, and wore a leg brace all his life. He was a model of courage and perseverance.

Collage/Painting

This photomontage was hand colored with watercolors and markers in some places on the black and white photos. Then I glued down the photos, an index print, and a few paint color samples, and finally added acrylic paints to help unify the composition.

Analogous Color Schemes Are Captivating!

Harmonious, related colors are always gorgeous together.

Take a good look at a 16-point color wheel. Analogous colors are those found immediately next to each other there. They look so pleasing together because they are a family of sorts.

Black, white, gray, and the neutrals such as beige and brown are not found on the color wheel,
but they certainly can be used in an artwork with analogous colors. Some analogous artworks
are done in all warm colors (reds, yellows, and oranges), while others, such as the
sample below, use cool colors--anything  from violet to green. Or choose a combination
of related warms and cools, an example of which is red, red-violet, violet, blue-violet, and blue.

This still life was done with wax crayon and watercolors.
