How to Mix a Dark Yellow: a Painting Tutorial

Yellow and black together make green. Many of you already know that, so I will keep this little tute brief.

Try deepening yellow with a mixture of burnt and raw umber instead, as shown at right in the photo above. This tip is courtesy of CPi, publishers of The Complete Photo Guide to Creative Painting, co-authored by yours truly!

  1. I love your little tips - I was just trying to mix colors last night to get a deep colonialish yellow! No matter what I did the color either ended up looking like stadium mustard or a Halloween pumpkin. But I have burnt umber in my paint stash- now I'm off to go try it. Have a Blessed weekend.
